We have 11 month old, yellow lab puppy. How can I make him drop things he can't have? He also nips our boys (ages 4 and 2.5 yrs) Thanks!

Lindsey:

How do I get my 8 month old puppy to stop biting the carpet? She has torn it up and made a hole. When we yell at her she gets excited like we are playing and starts running around and biting us and our pant legs

Jacquelyne Wright:

A friend lost a 8 mo old Chi at a rest area (Exit 131, Daniels Parkway) in Ft. Myers, FL. The dog has been in the wetland/wooded area for over 14 days, has been spotted several times eating at dumpsters. etc., as recent as today, but will not come to the owner or anyone. They have tried traps only to catch rats, etc. My friend loves her dog and is desperate. We have tried Amimal Control, Huname Society, private PHs, no one is interested in helping. Please...please, can you help us catch her. She has been seen eating at garbage cans, etc. at the rest area and adjacent construction area, but runs into the wetland/forest area when apporached. We need an expert like you that can bring her in. If you can't help us, can you suggest anyone, provide or any suggestions.

Kent & Susan:

We have 2 dogs, brother/sister. They are mixed black lab and American bulldog. The male is 80lbs and the female is 55lbs. The female is dominate. When they play outside, we have an acre of land, they chase each other and bite each other on the neck, playfully. Then they stop and stand on their rear legs and growl and snap at each other. They never hurt each other nor draw blood just rough play. They are good with children so that's not an issue. They just have lots of engergy. I run them to the river, about 3/4 of a mile, about once a week. Should we stop them from their rough housing?

Mariana:

I have two female pitt bulls about 1 year apart. When they were little we had no problems, but now that their older they get in fights and they get hurt. It got to the point that I had to move and take one and leave the other with my brothers, it kills me and I know they miss eachother. The holidays are comming and I wanted to bring them together but I'm afraid they'll fight. We used those "mouth restrainer" and that feeds into the pitt bull stereotype and thats Not what they are. What can I do to prevent their fighting or is there something else I can do?

Darlene:

Currently I have two labs. I decided to use shock collars to keep them out of the road. Twice the fence broke and twice the dogs have left the grounds. The problem is they do not return on their own. I have to search the community to find them and bring them home. I began to wonder if it was because of the collars. And perhaps I need to desensitize them to the collars? At this point, I'm afraid they will just keep running away and not coming home if I discontinue using the collars. HELP!

Lupe Navarro:

Cesar, I am writing you in desperation. I truly hope you read your e-mails and can help our family. We have a red nose pit-bull as one of our family pets along with a shih-tzu, they get along great and love eachother to death. We have had out pit since he was a baby and grew up with our kids. He's extremely great with our kids and our family. However he's VERY VERY aggressive with other dogs, he hates other dogs. Today one of our neighbor's dogs came in to our yard through a broken fence and our pit bull attacked it. When ever we try and walk him he is unbearable when he sees another dog, it's almost like he's another dog and goes into attack mode. I am hurting because our dog is part of our family and my husband is saying we are going to have to get rid of him and it's breaking our family's hearts including my husbands. We are affraid that he might attack another neighbor's dog because all of our surrounding neighbor's have dogs, big and small. The dog the our dog attacked today was a small dog and I truly hope that dog is alright. We went to their house and gave our phone number to their daughter because the owner's of the dog had left to rush their dog to the vet hospital. Please Cesar help us with our dog. I am desperate.

Shelia Rigby:

I hope this questions gets to Mr. Milan. I have two large dogs, one of which is a pit bull, catahoula mix and the other is a lab german sherpard mix. I have a problem when it is time to put their pinch collars on right before I take them a walk. The pit mix Zeus, gets so excited that he jumps and jumps and one time he jumped so hard his hard head hit me under my chin. Please advise as to how I can calm him down so that he doesn't jump up and down so much so that I can safely put on his collar. I watch your show all the time and I have learned so much. It is a lot about the dog's body language that you have to study to understand them. I know a great deal about human body language but I am learning every day about dog body language. And until I saw an episode about the height of the dog's tale and what that means that was very enlightening. Even if you don't have dogs and you might be approached by one, that is a definite clue as to what their demeanor is. Thanks for all your helpful information.

Harriet Atwood:

I have five Maltese and two of them are boys. One is fixed and one is not, they fight all the time and I'm not sure which is the problem dog. One day it will be Jack my oldest and the other is Duke the younger of the two and when they are fighting my youngest female will get in on it. How can I tell which one wants to be the leader and how can I stop them from fighting?

Linda:

Hi NGC,

I just wanted to say that I feel the Dog Whisperer is the best show on TV, not only is he GREAT helping people find peace with their dogs but he is entertaining to. Please keep this show going there is not enough good tv(except for your channel) anymore. Thank you to Cesar, I hope you know what a difference and hope you provide for all the misunderstood dogs in this country.

Thanks, Linda & Taz

Jodi:

I have a 7 month old rottweiler and he gets into and eats everything and anything including stuffing from his pillow, clothes, paper towel, sticks etc. He sleeps in our room at night and that's when he destroys his pillow, and during the day when he's not in his crate he's eating everything. How can I stop him from doing this?

Thanks Jodi

Holly Henley:

I am a vet tech and I would like to have a few tips on handling crazy dogs that are so scared of coming to the vet. I also have a 5 month old Great Pyn mix and he is having a few signs of food aggression. Any suggestions?

Joanie:

Cesar I hope you can find it in your heart to help us help Lacie our rescue Basset. We got her one year ago from a shelter. They told my husband she was shy,but when he arrived at home with her I knew differently.I phoned the shelter and they confesed to her abuse. She had many issues it would take 2 pages to list and still has most of them. My main concern is she is a red zone case and it can not get any worse. She attacks Clara our older Basset 13,myself and lunges at my husband at night.I discipline her using some of the things you do but have to watch, she does not like this and is like a great white shark.I took a few hits and needed stitches and Clara as well. The hospital questioned me on what happened over and over again because I needed stitches 4 times in 3 weeks. My husband wants to get rid of her now,but surely she would not be adopted and be euthanised.I can not do anything to control these rages and when I see the eyes all black,no iris and a green glow I know she can only be pulled off the other dog or I must get out of her way. She is the demon dog. Please consider our situation and her life.I also believe all animals can be saved if you are willing to put the time in and i am willing and I am sure you can convince Ken too.Thank you for reading about our problem.Yours Truely Joanie 732-580-3060 from new Jersey

Mabel:

I have a 6 month old maltese. Recently new neighbors moved in next door. we have a duplex, so only a chain link fence separates us from what looks like a pit bull. I'm afraid to take my puppie out because I know he the neighbors dog can jump the fence. I have seen a pit jump the fence before in my neighborhood.
I'm afraid to sit in my yard.

Sue Grendall:

I have a 6 month Chineese Pug and a 2 year old Shiapoo. I let them lead me when we walk because I let them smell everything so that they will go potty. I know your not supposed to let them lead you or smell eveything but this is their opportunity to go potty and have a walk. Do I let them continue to smell everything? If I am not supposed to let them smell then how do I get them to go potty?

Casey Owen:

I have two adult dogs, both around 3.5 years old; one is a female pure bred black lab, the other is a rescue male dog (unknown species.. mix w/shepard/collie?). Everytime we go outside to be with them, the black lab female grabs her favorite toy and only wants to push it in the other dogs face, circling in frenzy that she has it, and he doesn't. This is the MAIn problem.. many many more jealosy issues. How do we address the toy thing and how do you make dogs "unjealous?" If they think we are not home, they play together quite entertainingly... when we are in the picture, however, they are only concerned about who is getting the attention.

Marian:

We have an 8 month old pug named Spanky. In March of this year we lost our beloved pug Regie due to advanced age. In April we got Spanky, and the difference between those dogs is unbelieveable. Spanky shows so much agression when we put a leash on him, also he is constantly jumping, nipping, he just can't seem to calm down even after being walked. We plan to have him neutered this month (Nov). Please give advice to curb some of his excitability. Thanks

justin:

hello Cesar i have about a year and 1/2 old red nose pit mixed with lab she is at my dads she is a well behaved dog she stays in the yard and she is a lovable dog just the other day my dad told me that she got aggressive with two other dogs she nearly killed one my dad is going to give her away if i don't do something quick i want to keep her any suggestions like a runner or something to keep her from being aggressive

Debbie Sackman:

Hi Cesar. We love watching your show and have learned so much, thanks!

We have a wonderful 3 yrs old Bichon Frise. She is the happiest dog I've ever known and is a great family dog. Our only challenge is we've never been able to fully housebreak her. We've tried lots of different techniques with minimal success. She has ruined our carpets, and we can't replace them since she still isn't housebroken. This is supposed to be such a basic thing, yet no one seems able to help us! We love her dearly but it is nasty and unsanitary to live this way - can you help?!

Toni Montao:

HEllo. I have two female spade dogs. One is a boxer 3rys and the other a pitbull mix 1 yrs old. Both are very sweet dogs. They have been together for about one year now and have only began to fight about one month ago. They fight till bloddy injury. Usually im not home to break them up. Is there anyway I can get them to stop without seperating the two or giving one up?

john antalis:

i notice that all the programs i have seen involve leashes and walking dogs in the city. how do you exercise assertiveness and become pack leader when you have country dogs that have plenty of room to run and leave you in the dust, and chase and fight (not seriously) among themselves?

Laura Sivley:

Hi

I have a 5year old Lab-Chow mix. He is a very sweet and loving family dog. I recently found out that he has heart worms. He is such a sweet dog and I want to do everything I can for him but he is also very active. The vet told me that the treatment would be long and he would have to be crated for a month at a time. It would be imposible to crate this dog for very long but I dont know of anything else to do. Any Suggestions? Please Help.
Thanks Laura

Evelyn Hale:

I have a boxer mixed with pitt and all he ever does is jump the fence we have done everything we can think of to try to stop this we have had too many people complaing in the neigborhood about this so we had to chain him up and I hate to do that please help me with this issue maybe there is something else out there that will help. I also have a tiny toy chihu. who is very aggressive and its really getting on my last nerve I have also tried everything with him maybe you also have something for that to help. Laura Hall:

Hi I watch your show every episode. Even the repeats. I live in British Columbia, Canada and man i wish you could do a show here. I see you were in Seattle and that was the closest to me but couldn't make it. Anyway i do have a question and hope you can answer. I have a 8 month old rottweiller and is still quite the puppy. He weighs over 100lbs already and a heavy dog to play with. He can be rough always wanting tug aware with our sleeves, drives me nuts. He has snapped at my 12 year old son, he went to pet him and turned and bit his face, yes drew blood. I almost had it then. He thinks my son is a toy and thats the problem, he run up to him grabbing is sleeve or whatever he can grab. My son can just sit there and he'll charge at him. I'm scared now after the bite. He will not listen to my son. Please help me in some suggestion. He is neutered. Thought i'd mention that. I realize he is a puppy still, but his bites are hard cause he is large for a puppy.

Daniel:

I have 3 dogs. A Kuvasz (7), a Border Collie mix(7), and a Husky.(1 and a half) The Collie and the Husky, both females, are usually wary of each other. But, every once in a while, they get into terrible fights. Each dog gets pretty torn up from these, and its only a matter of time until one kills the other. My mom wants to get rid of one, but I have lived with them both for a long time, and I don't want to get rid of one. I also don't have much money for medication , or for a behaviorist; and each time they fight, the vet bills are usually $1000. What can i do?

Randy Fortenbaugh:

Hello Cesar,

I love your show and what you have taught me by watching it. I have 2 dogs, one is a siberian husky and the other a lab mix. They were the best of friends for the first 2 years, but one day the labrabor turned on the husky and now attacks her every time we make a mistake and they get together. I have been bitten about 4 -5 times, 2 requiring stitches. The last time was 2 nights ago and I almost lost my pinky finger. Fortunately, they were able to sew it back on. We love both our dogs and can't just put the lab to sleep. I live in NY and would love any help that you could give us. Please help us before I get hurt any worse.

Thank you Cesar,

Erika Salcido:

Hi my name is Erika and The Dog Whisperer is my favorite show. I recently got a Belgian Malinois he is 3yrs old and great in every way except he recently started digging holes in our grass and landscaping. He has some sort of problem not having 100% attention 100% of the time. I walk him for about 1 1/2 hrs a day in the morning and play fetch with him in the evening and hes indoors and out but the second hes out he starts digging. I also have a Chihuahua and Yorkie so he has company. I don't seem to understand why he does this or how to stop him I don't want to part with him because thats his only flaw but my husband is getting tired of this habbit. Please help!!!

jen:

Dear Cesar,

me and my two roomates mike and mike voulnteer at a humane society in dublin VA. trying to train and rehabilitate dogs and could really use some help and pointers for them to help them get homes. it is an euthanization clinic. we are trying to get the dogs trained before they have a chance to get euthanized. any dog that is considered agressive towards humans or other animals get put down. we dont have enough time and experience ourselves to take care of all of the dogs yet. we are the main 3 people that work with them every day. we watch your show all the time to get as many tips as we can, and if i do say so myself, it has worked tremendusly so far. but we would like more training from you to help rehabilitate dogs quicker so they dont get euthanized. the humane society does have a website. the adress is; http://www.dogsaver.org/pchs/ if you want to take a look at it. some of the cases that really dissapoint us and would like to put them to a hault were; roberta. roberta was a hound mix that came in a few months ago as an abuse case. when she first came in you could not get near her. she was very skiddish and unsure of herself. you couldnt even get close enough to get a leash on her. after a little work from us she transformed. we could walk her no problem. if we went into her cage, she would lay down on our lap. we also got her to get along with one other dog. work was comming along slow but progressively. after she was there for about 2 months she was put down because she had a growlish bark, but not agressive. some people didnt understant her like we did and thought she would be agressive towards people, and didnt want to take the chance. another was herculeze. he was a pit mix. he was only there for 2 or 3 days. he was a bite case. he didnt like females and had a little bit of an attitude towards males. mike started to work with him. he submitted to him no problem. but he was put down once again because some people didnt want to take the chance that he would bite again. i think if we only had more time he would have came around great, but sadly we didnt get that chance. we have also seen many dogs put down for reasons such as; growlish bark, too quiet(people were unsure of them), too exited (jumping around constantly in their cages, possibly injuring themselves), no room, food agression, animal agression, and minor human agression(we havent seen any really agressive dogs come in yet). we thing most if not all of these dogs can be rehabilitated if given the time and proper training. we would just like to save, rehabilitate, and give all of the dogs new homes, but we could sincerely use your help. thank you and hope to hear from you or even better yet see you in the near future.

thanks again,

jen, mike, mike

Judy:

Dear Cesar,
I watch all your shows but I haven't run across you dealing with a particular issue which I encounter quite often. (If you have done a show on this, how can I see it)? I have 2 lab mixes (male & female)about 1 and 3 yrs old, they walk nicely for me, but on occasion we come across other dogs that are not tied up or walking unleashed with their owner and the dog comes charging at me & my two dogs. I stay calm, but when I don't know if the dog will bite me or my dogs, then what do you do? My male gets aggressive when he's leashed and the other dog running at us isn't, and I understand he might be trying to protect me, but I can't train everyone else's dog. Am I responsible if my dog would bite a dog that charges us, even if that dog is friendly, but we don't know that? How do I test this theory out? (Handling my dogs if another one charges us)?
Your help would be greatly appreciated.

Sincerely,
Judy :)

P.S. - Keep up the good work!

Karen Bev:

I have a 5 month old female shih tzu that is not spayed yet. We got her when she was 2 months old and since then everytime she goes out to go to the bathroom she will eat her own poop. I have tried the powder called Forbid and have tried putting hot sauce on her poop after she goes. She will not eat it with the hot sauce, but if I stop once, she will go after it. She also eats other dogs poop also if she is at my neighbors house who has 3 dogs. It's a constant struggle to beat her to it and clean it up after she goes but I'm at my wits end that it will never stop.

Lacey:

Hi, I have 3 dogs outside that do not get along. They got along great until they hit a certain age and then we had to put them on lines in the backyard. We would love for our dogs to be able to run together and play like they used to. They also either dig out of the fence or jump over it when left alone to run in the backyard. We have one female that seems to be terrified of people and will bite when given the chance, she was brought up with all the same love as the others but still seems to be mean to everyone but my husband and I. Please Help

Paul:

This isn't about my dog, as much as it is about my neibor's dogs. They have two German Sheppards that continuously attack my dog, an Australian Sheppard Border Collie Mix, when we pass eachother on walks (they usually don't have leashes on when this happenns). I really don't want my dog to get injured, Please help them learn to controll their dogs!

Barry Chappell:

I have a chow-chow, that is psycho, she's loving as she can be to my wife and I and our friends but when we're not around she deliberatley tears the house apart, chwes through door frames, goes absolutely berserk when we get a storm. can you help, Cesar?

Elizabeth Duron:

I have a 1 yeat old lab/boxer mix. He is very loving to our family but goes crazy and growls when he is around other people or animals. I am afraid he is going ti bite someone if we even attempt to take him on walks. When he is sick the VET will not see him. He even went as far as telling me he could not be rehabilitated and he was a liability. I am moving out of my home due to financial reasons and moving into an apartment. I cannot find a home for him because he wants to attach everyone outside of our family. THe vet tols me if I take him to the SPCA I should be honest with them and inform them of his aggression..the vet also told me it may be better to put him down and there was no way to rehabilitate him.

Please help.

Vinny P.Ugarte:
