NGC Mailbag
May 8, 2007Jeff Darnell – Viewer Correspondence
Thank you to the folks who continue to write in to this blog and to our regular email: comments@natgeochannel.com. As we hit the nice weather outside, television viewing begins to decline, but there seems to be no end to questions and we wouldn’t have it any other way!
Scott writes: Thank you, a reason why I try to get people to question what they see and hear on TV is:
1) Researching a subject of interest is far better than listening to what someone wants you here.
2) People need to get out and participate in nature. One can not fully appreciate what we have by being a spectator.
Sincerely,
Scott
P.S. I use to subscribe to two of your magazines. My comments above are the reason why I no longer do. That and they are over priced! Also I should say I do like your channel I would say it is in my top 3.
NGC: We agree, researching a subject of interest is far more enlightening than watching on TV. Our programs, nor really any television programs, aren’t meant to be as indepth as books and articles – the medium doesn’t allow for it. If we get people excited about wanting to learn more about the world, researching animals, going to school, training to be a scientist, etc, than we’ve more than done our job. I can’t comment on the magazines, (although they’ll probably help you in your research), but thanks for watching the channel!
Sam wrote: Every once in awhile I get these irritating noises when watching your channel, they sound like a telephone dial, beeping like. Please STOP sending these noises, I can’t stand it!
NGC: Sam, we hear this off and on, you aren’t alone! That sound you hear is a cue we send to your local cable operator through our signal. Its never meant to be broadcast out and often we nor your cable operator knows its even happening until someone alerts them. Here’s the best course of action, write us at comments@natgeochannel.com with your zip code and cable provider. We can contact them directly and have the situation resolved so that you aren’t hearing that tone any longer.
rkoxford writes: I was wondering if all the episodes [of Dog Whisperer] are going to be repeats now. I watched Friday (4-20-07) and all 3 were repeats, are there no new episodes now? Thanks!
NGC: We have some surprises in store later this summer as we premiere 2 episodes from season 3 during a Best of Dog Whisperer Week. Cesar is busy right now in production with season 4, which will premiere probably in September of this year (still being finalized). Until then, we are in repeats on Friday nights – we had to give Cesar a little rest and it gives us the chance to allow new viewers to find the program as well.
Thanks again from NGC and please keep the email coming (comments@natgeochannel.com) and/or the posts to this blog.

I can't seem to find any information about the program Ultimate Factories and when additional episodes will air on the NGC. I was told that one of the episodes was on the Ferrari 599. Others were on the John Deere factory and Harley Davidson. Your search engine doesn't indicate anything about future episodes, scheduled episodes or repeat episodes being broadcast. How do I find that information on this web site?
Thanks,
Tom

Hi NGC, I just want to say that I love the web site, the blog and most definetly the National Geographic Channel , you are the BEST! I love the constant research you do and all the programming, the National Geographic should be on every high school ,JR high and Grade school curriculum. What a great way to learn ancient as well as recent history. keep up the Great work!!

Dear National Geographic fans, we're grad students at UCSB and we took a class sponsored by Harley Davidson on viral-videomaking. Our video explores the codes of critter-cam documentaries while commenting on the Harley lifestyle. Please check out our video, "Expedition Harley:tracking the beast" at the link below and, if you think we have one of the top 3 videos, we'd really really really appreciate your vote!! thank you!!!

I really enjoy watching your channel. Often the music is so loud I cannot hear what the narrator is saying. When this occurs I switch to another channel. Can you please quieten the music?

Tonight you aired a show called Outsmarting Terror on the National Geographic Channel. The material that was used in the Pentagon was in fact Rhino Linings and not Line-X. If you go to rhinolinings.com you will find this information.

To Thomas Kemp:
I apologize for the delay, the best bet for schedule information is at http://channel.nationalgeographic.com/channel/ET/daily/daily.html. I also did a search for Ultimate Factories here: http://google.nationalgeographic.com/search?q=ultimate+factories&sort=date%3AD%3AL%3Ad1&output=xml_no_dtd&site=channel_et&spell=1&oe=UTF-8&client=channel&proxystylesheet=channelet_test

To Marty:
We periodically get the question about background music and quite honestly, I get a few answers. We QC (Quality Control) all of our shows before they go through our Master Control. We check audio levels of narration and music throughout and in our machines, they come out clean. The compression rates we use are the same as most other networks but sometimes how they are ultimately played on your site is completely reliant on the signal from your operator. If you can email us at comments@Natgeochannel.com with your cable operator and zip code, we might be able to find out if they are mixing our audio or transmitting at different levels. We monitor our signal on local cable in DC as well as the satellite providers and it seems to be coming out fine. However, the more we know about what is going on, the better we can ensure the signal is clean.

cosmic explosions in your March 2007 issue were interesting and while speculations are fun for scientists the conclusions rub elbows with junk science.

Hi Gerri, I totally agree with your comment:) The quality of our life is dependant on the choices we make while living it. I admire Michael Thompson for having the strength, intelligence and courage to turn his life around. I guess posting these words here will be the only place to do so..."Good for you Michael!"

The program just watched on TV irritated me. The polar bear investigation revealed that we were polluting the arctic, causing hormones in young male bears to be aggresive and killers. I don't think you have done near the reseach to make a claim like that. It does fit nicely with the global warming circus we are experiencing.

Re Michael Thompson former Aryan Brotherhood member:
Does anyone know how I can write to him? Did an actor portray MT in the National Geographic documentary, and on the clips that appear on YouTube? tks
